I’m a self-taught photographer who shoots with both film and digital cameras. My debut project, “Ballet on Film,” which follows a Honolulu ballet school as it navigates and innovates during the pandemic, won an international award from The Photo Review and a Series Award selected by PF Bentley. “Ballet on Film” has been the cover story of Hana Hou! and a piece from the collection was selected as Best of Photo Vogue. In addition, my work has been exhibited in Honolulu and New York.
I first began experimenting with cameras and photography in my 30s with an iPhone. After a few years of shooting digitally, I watched Finding Vivian Maier and everything changed. Soon after, I acquired my first and still my favorite film camera, a 53-year-old Yashica 635. The majority of my film work is shot with this camera and on Kodak Portra 800.
