SALLE HONOLULU FENCING CLUB

Established in 1997 by Colin Chock, the Hawaii fencing club offers introductory fencing classes to students of all ages. Although they focus on the foil, traditionally the main weapon, they also teach the other two disciplines, epee and saber. Learn more on sallehonolulu.com.

Jack (6-years-old) fencing Roland (61-years-old)

“Roland is the only fencer who knew how to fence before I met him. He’s not an official Salle teacher, but as close to one as there could be.” Roland suits up and fences everyone, a different type of lesson that compliments Colin’s style. “If you have two instructors you want them to have different styles but not contradict.”

“Over the years, I’ve tried to adapt.” If students want to work out he can devise fencing drills. Or if they are inspired by The Princess Bride and the romanticism of simulated sword fighting, Colin tries to tailor the class to what they are looking for.
